Second opinions on family law matters — a fresh set of experienced eyes on your case.
When the stakes are high, you deserve more than one perspective. Carl Knickerbocker provides second opinions on family law matters to clients across the country — helping you evaluate whether your strategy is sound, your settlement is fair, and your rights are protected.
Why A Second Opinion Matters
Your attorney may be good. But are they seeing everything in your case?
Family law cases involve complex decisions with lasting consequences — and even skilled, experienced attorneys can miss issues, underestimate risks, or take a strategy that isn’t optimized for your specific situation. Sometimes a fresh perspective from someone with a different vantage point is exactly what a case needs.
Carl Knickerbocker provides second opinions on family law matters to clients anywhere in the country. He reviews your situation, documents, and proposed strategies — and gives you an honest, experienced assessment of what he sees. This is not about criticizing your current attorney. It’s about making sure you are fully informed and that your interests are being protected.
Second opinion sessions are conducted virtually and available to clients in any state. You do not need to be in Texas to benefit from Carl’s 17 years of family law experience and his specific expertise in high-conflict cases.
When People Seek A Second Opinion
What A Second Opinion Session Covers
A second opinion is not a quick read — it’s a substantive review.
Before your session, you’ll share relevant documents and a summary of your situation. Carl reviews everything carefully so the session itself is productive and focused. Depending on what you bring, a session can cover any of the following:
Settlement Review
Is the proposed settlement fair? Are there issues that haven’t been adequately addressed? Are you being asked to give up rights or assets that matter? Carl evaluates proposed agreements with a careful eye on both the legal details and the long-term consequences.
Case Strategy Review
Is your attorney’s approach right for your situation? Are there options being overlooked? Is the case being litigated aggressively enough, or being pushed toward settlement when it shouldn’t be? Carl evaluates strategy with a focus on your actual goals and the dynamics of your specific case.
Order Review
Before you sign a court order, understand exactly what you’re agreeing to. Poorly drafted orders create problems for years. Carl reviews proposed orders for ambiguity, missing provisions, enforcement issues, and terms that favor the other side in ways that may not be obvious.
High-Conflict Strategy
If your case involves a narcissistic, high-conflict, or abusive opposing party, standard strategies often fail. Carl brings specific expertise in these dynamics and can evaluate whether your current approach accounts for the behavioral patterns you’re likely to encounter in the case.
Common Questions
Second Opinion FAQs
Will this affect my relationship with my current attorney?
Not necessarily. Many clients seek second opinions while continuing to work with their existing attorneys. A second opinion doesn’t mean you’re switching lawyers — it means you want to be fully informed about your options and your situation. If you decide you want to make a change after your session, Carl can discuss what that would involve, but there is no obligation to do so.
Do I need to be in Texas?
No. Second opinion consulting is available to clients in any state via virtual sessions. While Carl’s legal representation is limited to Texas, his consulting and second opinion services are available nationwide. He can review your case documents, assess your strategy, and provide substantive guidance regardless of where your case is filed.
How does the session work?
After you book, we’ll ask you to submit relevant documents and a brief description of your situation before your session. Carl reviews everything in advance so the session itself is substantive and focused — not spent getting up to speed. Sessions are conducted via video call or phone and can be scheduled at a time that works for you.
What if I want Carl to take over my case entirely?
If you are in Texas and want Carl to represent you as your attorney of record, we can discuss that during or after your second opinion session. Full legal representation involves its own engagement process and fee arrangement. For clients outside Texas who want ongoing strategic support, our legal consulting services provide a structure for continuing to work together.
Take the first step — it’s free.
