Nationwide — Available Virtually

Legal consulting on family law matters — direct access to 17 years of experience, wherever you are.

For clients outside Texas, or those who want strategic legal guidance without full representation, Carl Knickerbocker provides legal consulting sessions that deliver real answers to real questions — with no geographic restrictions.

What Legal Consulting Provides

Not everyone needs full representation. Everyone deserves real answers.

Legal consulting fills the gap between general information — which you can find anywhere — and full legal representation. It gives you direct, personal access to an experienced family law attorney who can answer your specific questions, review your specific documents, and apply his experience to your specific situation.

This service is designed for clients who are outside Texas and want strategic guidance from someone with deep Texas family law experience, or for clients who want to supplement their existing representation with an outside perspective on specific questions or challenges. It’s also valuable for people who are in the early stages of their situation and want to understand the landscape before deciding how to proceed.

Sessions are conducted via video call or phone, are available to clients nationwide, and can be arranged for a single session or on an ongoing basis as your situation evolves.

What You Can Bring To A Session

  • Questions about your case strategy or options
  • Proposed orders or agreements to review
  • Existing court orders you want to understand or challenge
  • High-conflict dynamics you need a strategy for
  • Preparation for hearings, depositions, or mediation
  • Understanding your rights and realistic case outcomes

What Sets This Apart

You’re not getting generic advice. You’re getting the perspective of someone who has handled hundreds of these cases.

Carl brings something to legal consulting that most attorneys don’t: a specific, deep focus on high-conflict family law cases and the behavioral dynamics that drive them. He understands not just the law, but how courts actually respond to narcissistic tactics, parental alienation, false allegations, and litigation abuse — and he can help you navigate those dynamics strategically.

He is also a published author — which means his understanding of these issues goes beyond courtroom experience into systematic, research-grounded frameworks that have helped clients across the country understand and manage their situations.

Common Questions

Legal Consulting FAQs

Is this the same as legal representation?

No. Legal consulting is an advisory service — Carl provides guidance, analysis, and strategic perspective, but does not enter an attorney-client relationship for purposes of representing you in court proceedings outside of Texas. It is a different type of engagement than full legal representation. If you are in Texas and want Carl as your attorney of record, that is handled as a separate engagement.

Can I use this to prepare for mediation or a hearing?

Yes — this is one of the most valuable uses of a consulting session. Carl can help you understand what to expect, how to present your position effectively, what the common pitfalls are, and how to handle high-conflict tactics that often arise in mediation and hearings. Going in prepared makes a significant difference in outcomes.

Can I have ongoing consulting sessions?

Yes. Many clients work with Carl over an extended period as their case develops — returning for sessions at key decision points, before hearings, when new issues arise, or simply to maintain their strategic clarity. There is no requirement to commit to a long-term arrangement; sessions can be scheduled individually as needed.

What’s the difference between legal consulting and a second opinion?

A second opinion is typically a focused review of a specific situation — a proposed settlement, a case strategy, or a court order. Legal consulting is a broader, potentially ongoing relationship where Carl provides strategic guidance across multiple aspects of your case over time. Both are available virtually to clients anywhere in the country.
